BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic congratulated all Muslim citizens on their religious holiday of Ramadan Bayram, and expressed the wish for them to spend it in peace and good health, and for the holiday to bring them family happiness and joy.

NOVI PAZAR - President of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Serbia Mufti Mevlud Dudic said that the Muslim holiday of Ramadan Bayram represents an opportunity to pray for the suffering Muslim people, especially in Gaza, and call for genuine peace among all peoples.

NOVI PAZAR - Reis ul Ulema of the Islamic Community of Serbia Adem Zilkic congratulated Muslim believers on Sunday on the beginning of the Ramadan Bayram, with the message that Muslims are living in a very difficult situation today which has brought about by several factors but, as he said, strength lies in faith and success lies in patience.

At least 41 people were killed in crashes across Turkey over the weekend, as hundreds of thousands of citizens hit the roads to mark the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Turkey’s main agenda should be rule of law, high democratic standards, accountability and good governance, outgoing President Abdullah Gül has said, underlining the significance of continuing political, economic and social reforms for the stability of the country’s future.

Gül’s indirect call to the government came just a month before the end of his tenure as the president.

Ambassador of Turkey to Romania Omur Solendil and Turkey's Consul-general Ali Bozçaliskan will attend on Sunday evening the Ramazan Bayrami religious service at the Abdul Medgid Mosque in the eastern city of Medgidia, celebrated by Dr. Mufti Muurat Yusuf, the head of the Muslim Cult in Romania.

With Eid al-Fitr, or "Ramazan Bayramı" in Turkish, fast approaching, the leaders and representatives of all the major political parties in Turkey are still campaigning hard for the upcoming presidential elections on Aug. 10.

Muslims in Turkey have welcomed the holy month of Ramadan, while the fasting will start in most Arab and African nations on Sunday.

The first suhoor - a Ramadan meal before dawn - took place in Turkey's northeastern city of Ardahan at 2.39 a.m. on Saturday while the last one occurred in the southwestern city of Mugla at 4.02 a.m.

Malaysian authorities on Thursday were searching for 35 people missing at sea following two boat accidents at a time when many illegal migrant workers head home to Indonesia for the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
