Eight-thousanders

Atanas Skatov has become the second Bulgarian in 24 hours to climb Annapurna, known as the world's most dangerous mount.

Skatov has reached the summit in a group of 30 (16 Nepali and 14 foreign nationals), according to the Altitude Pakistan blog which cites officials in Kathmandu.

Bulgarian mountarineer Boyan Petrov has successfully set foot on Annapaurna, the tenth-highest peak.

Annapurna, 8901 m, is known as the world's deadliest mountain.

Petrov has already given Annapurna an unsuccessful try.

His last attempt at conquerng Annapurna had to be postponed due to severe weather conditions.

Bulgarian mountaineers Boyan Petrov and Atanas Skatov will be in the same expedition which will attempt to ascend the tenth highest peak in the world - Annapurna in the Himalayas.

Rising at an altitude of 8091 metres, Annapurna is considered as one of the deadliest eight thousanders to climb, with roughly every third attempt resulting in fatality.

Bulgarian mountaineer Atanas Skatov became on Thursday the first vegan to have ascended the eighth highest peak in the world - the 8163-metre Manaslu in the Himalayas.

Skatov also became the second Bulgarian to have ascended the peak after Boyan Petrov climbed it a day earlier on Wednesday.

The information was announced by the website of the expedition - Seven Summit Treks Manaslu and has not yet been confirmed by Petrov himself, which will be possible only after he reaches the base camp.

Romanian climber Alex Gavan, who has six eight-thousanders under his belt, kick-started this Tuesday a fundraising campaign for post-disaster intervention and reconstruction in quake-stricken Nepal, dubbed "Joy for Nepal."

No Bulgarian trekkers are missing in Nepal's northern mountains where blizzards and avalanches killed at least 29 people two days ago, a Bulgarian trekking tour organizer has said.

Evgeniy Dinchev told BNR radio station on Friday the Bulgarian hikers are safe and sound and will return to Sofia on Saturday.
