Erdoğan says he will run for reelection next year

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed on June 9 that he plans to stand for reelection next year.

Erdoğan, 68, made the announcement during a speech in the Aegean coastal city of Izmir, where he challenged the main opposition party's leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, to announce the candidate who would challenge him on behalf of an alliance of opposition parties.

CHP leader to begin public rallies to push for early polls

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said he will do whatever is necessary for early polls to take place and announced that he will start public rallies to let the voices of those who want snap elections as soon as possible be heard by the government and its ally.

MHP objects to debate on Kurdish issue

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Oct. 5 rejected any debate on the Kurdish issue and reiterated his argument that "there is no Kurdish problem" in Turkey.

"To discuss the so-called Kurdish issue means to discussing the nation. Discussing the nation is synonymous with opening the state for discussion," he said at the MHP's parliament group meeting.
