Firefighters battle two blazes in Peloponnese
Firefighters battled two big blazes in the Peloponnese on Sunday, one of which came close to threatening an archaeological site.
The first fire started at 2.20 p.m. in the area of Potamia near Megalopoli in Arcadia. Fourteen fire service trucks, two private water carriers and 38 firemen brought the blaze under control.

Drones enlisted in mosquito war in western Greece
Satellites, drones and geographic information systems (GIS) are being deployed as part of an ambitious program to combat mosquitoes in regions of western and southwestern Greece.
The program's main goal is to safeguard public health from malaria and West Nile virus by monitoring mosquitoes and bird populations.

Police on Monday arrested two men on arson charges in connection with a spate of wildfires in Ileia, in the Peloponnese, on the weekend, Ekathimerini reported.
The two Greek men, aged 21 and 29, are believed to have set two forest fires on Sunday.

A stolen marble piece from Ancient Olympia was returned from Germany
A fragment of a marble pipeline, which had been detached from the archaeological site of Ancient Olympia and illegally exported from Greece, was repatriated from Germany. The ancient object was delivered by a German citizen to the offices of the Greek Embassy in Berlin.
Firefighters battle blaze in Ileia, in the Peloponnese
Firefighters were on Thursday battling a forest fire that broke out in the municipality of Ilida, in the Ileia region of the Peloponnese.
Some 26 firefighters on the ground, backed up by more than 13 fire engines and water tankers, were taking part in the operation. Three water-dropping aircraft were assisting in the efforts.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.

The National Theater of Northern Greece is taking its production of the third play in Aeschylus' Oedipus-themed trilogy, "Seven Against Thebes" - where the blind king's curse dooming his sons to divide the kingdom by the sword finally comes to pass. The production is directed by Lithuania's Cezaris Grauzinis and stars Yiannis Stankoglou as Eteocles and Giorgos Papandreou as Polynices.
