Man with knife holding jobcentre staff hostage in Newcastle, say police

A man armed with a knife has taken several members of staff at a jobcentre in Newcastle hostage, Northumbria police have said.

Officers were called to Clifford Street in Byker at around 8am on Friday morning following reports of a disturbance at the centre.

Specialist negotiators are at the scene, and roads around the premises have been closed until further notice.

24-year-old man arrested over Manchester bombing attack

Police investigating the Manchester bombing have arrested a 24-year-old man.
Greater Manchester Police said the man was arrested on Friday night in Rusholme on suspicion of offences contrary to the terrorism act.
He is the 17th person to be arrested in connection with the May 22 attack at the Manchester Arena.
Six people have since been released without charge.

UK Police Nabs 15th Person in Manchester Bomb Probe

British police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the Manchester bombing that killed 22 people last week, Voice of America radio reported.

The arrest was made late Sunday during a raid in the Gorton area of Manchester on "suspicion of offences contrary to the terrorism act," the Greater Manchester police said in a statement.

Man found dead inside cab north of Athens

Police were investigating Wednesday after a man was found dead inside a taxi, north of Athens, late Tuesday.

Police said the victim appeared to have died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Forensic experts were called to the scene, at the northern suburb of Kifissia.

The identity of the victim has not been made public.
