Forty-seven people were buried in a landslide in China's southwestern Yunnan province on Monday, state media reported.

The landslide took place at 5:51 am (2151 GMT Sunday) in Zhenxiong County, state news agency Xinhua reported, citing local authorities.

Torrential rainfalls in the quake-hit provinces, where efforts are ongoing to remove piles of rubble from collapsed buildings, can increase the risk of deadly debris flows carried away by floodwaters, warns an expert.

Some 16 percent of the total surface area of the northern province of Trabzon is prone to the risk of flooding and landslides, a risk map prepared by the Presidency of Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) has shown.

Landslides have ranked second following earthquakes as the type of natural disaster that claims the most deaths in Turkey, according to a study.
