EU accuses Apple of breaking bloc's digital rules

Apple risks billions of euros in fines after the European Union on Monday accused the iPhone maker of violating the bloc's landmark digital rules by hindering competition on its App Store.

The European Commission informed Apple in a "preliminary view" that the "App Store rules... prevent app developers from freely steering consumers to alternative channels for offers and content".

New app by the tax administration

Users of myAADEapp, the official mobile app of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), now have direct access to their income tax applications, cleared tax statements, and tax owed through the upgraded version available through the Google Play Store and the App Store (Apple).

Epic Games wins US court fight with Google

Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, won a major US court battle against Google on Monday when a jury decided that the search engine giant wields illegal monopoly power through its Android app store.

Epic sued Google and Apple in 2020, accusing the tech titans of abusing control of their respective shops selling apps and other digital content on mobile devices.

Apple targeted by $1 bln class action lawsuit in UK

U.S. tech giant Apple is being targeted by a class action lawsuit seeking over $1 billion in damages from developers angry about the high price it charges to market apps to users of its products, organizers said yesterday.

The lawsuit was launched by competition professor Sean Ennis at the University of East Anglia on behalf of 1,500 British app developers.
