Rescuers on Nov. 27 recovered two more bodies of miners killed after a landslide at the Madenköy copper mine in the southeastern province of Siirt, a security source said.        

The body of another missing miner was recovered on Nov. 24, seven days after a mine collapse in the Şirvan district of the southeastern province of Siirt, bringing the number of bodies found at the Madenköy copper mine to eight. 

Eight other workers still remain trapped underground.

An official expert report on the deadly mine accident in the Ermenek town in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman has proven that the disaster was not natural, but caused by technical neglect, while also citing that miners were poorly trained.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said safe rooms should be compulsory in mines and subcontracting must end in Turkey's mining sector, as he attended the Dec. 5 funerals of five miners who died after being trapped in a coal mine in the Central Anatolian town of Ermenek.

The Turkish Parliament has finally approved the International Labor Organization (ILO) convention on safety and health in mining, following debates after the recent Soma and Ermenek mining disasters.

The bodies of the remaining five victims at the Ermenek coal mine were recovered overnight on Dec. 3, ending 38 days of painstaking search efforts.

Search and rescue teams on Nov. 29 reached the remains of two more workers who were killed in a mine disaster in the southern Anatolian town of Ermenek, while efforts are continuing to reach six others in the facility.

An expert report prepared for the probe into the recent mine disaster in the Turkish town of Ermenek has found the Energy Ministry’s General Directorate of Mining (MİGEM) guilty of indirectly causing the accident, as it allowed the mine to be reopened although detected deficiencies were not remedied after an inspection in August.

Search teams reached the bodies of six more trapped miners in the flooded mine in Ermenek, central Turkey on early Nov. 18.

Eighteen miners were trapped underground after a flood at a coal mine in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman on Oct. 28.
