Man accused of fatally shooting dog in Ermioni

An incident of animal killing has been documented in the northern Peloponnese resort of Ermioni.

As reported by the public broadcaster ERT, a 75-year-old man used a rifle to shoot and fatally wound a shepherd dog.

Consequently, he was apprehended following a report made by a 42-year-old resident from the same village. Moreover, the rifle and two cartridges were confiscated.

Greek town ritually burns effigy of Judas as Orthodox celebrate Easter

As Orthodox Christians around the world celebrated Easter on Sunday, a town on Greece's Peloponnese peninsula observed the holy day by burning an effigy of Judas at sea.

The ritual burning of Judas is a custom also observed by Roman Catholics in parts of Latin America as a symbolic punishment for Judas' betrayal of Christ for a monetary reward.

Man, 60, gets suspended sentence after spearing cat

A 60-year-old man from Karditsa, central Greece, trapped a cat in a home-made cage in the yard of his home before spearing it with a harpoon, according to local reports.

According to Thessaliatv.gr, Ermioni Gianakkou, a representative of the animal rights groups Diasozo (I save) visited the scene of the attack and said the cat had been speared through the stomach.

TAIPED collects 8.8 mln from state property sales

Three fishermen die off Ermioni in boat accident

Three fishermen died off the coast of Ermioni in the eastern Peloponnese on Tuesday morning after their boat capsized.

The two Egyptians aged 32 and 55, and a 56-year-old Greek, were part of a crew of five. The other two fishermen were rescued by colleagues working nearby and have been taken to a local medical center for tests.
