Salt Bae fined by court for insulting ex-waiter in public
Nusret Gökçe, a Turkish butcher and chef popularly known as Salt Bae, has been given a judicial fine of 8,700 Turkish Liras ($876) by an Istanbul court for insulting an ex-waiter in public.

Turkish butcher-turned-celebrity restauranteur Nusret Gökçe, internationally known as Salt Bae for his meat-cutting and salt-drizzling skills has been hit with a $5 million copyright infringement lawsuit by a New York artist, who alleges the social media star used his artwork all over the world without permission.
Boğaziçi rector says he will not resign
Melih Bulu, the newly appointed rector at Istanbul's Boğaziçi University, said he will not step down following protests by the university students and academics.
Speaking to reporters, Bulu said he has no intentions to resign from his post and that he assumes that the crisis that started with his appointment will end in six months and that it will be so.

Fire breaks out at restaurant of ‘Salt Bae’ in Istanbul
Firefighters sprayed water and extinguished heavy smoke after a fire broke out at the steak house of Nusret Gökçe, the social media phenomenon known as “Salt Bae,” in the Etiler area of Istanbul on Nov. 29.
Popular TV host murdered in Istanbul hotel laid to rest
Vatan Şaşmaz, a renowned TV host and anchor, was laid to rest at a funeral ceremony on Aug. 29 at Istanbul's Güzeltepe Birlik Mosque, after he was shot dead in a hotel room in Istanbul's Beşiktaş district on Aug. 27.
Şaşmaz's relatives, colleagues, and fans attended the ceremony in the city's Üsküdar district. Following the funeral prayer, he was laid to rest at Çengelköy cemetery.

Istanbul mayor announces eight new metro lines
Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topba? announced on April 20 that eight new metro lines along with a pedestrian sub-sea tunnel are planned to be built in his third term, which he described as his "master term."
While submitting the 2015 Action Report to the municipal council, Topba? spoke about his plans for his third term.

Turkish convict 'beats girlfriend on first day of freedom'
A Turkish convict has brutally beaten his girlfriend in yet another crime he committed on the first day of freedom, according to the victim.
A young woman, identified as M.Ç., was hospitalized in Istanbul late June 26 with a broken nose and teeth. The victim told the police that she was beaten by her boyfriend, Onur Özbizerdik, Do?an News Agency reported on June 27.
Turkish pop star found dead
Veteran Turkish pop singer Erol Büyükburç was found dead in his home in Istanbul's Etiler neighborhood March 12. He was 79. A police investigation did not determine his death to be suspicious. It was reported that he had three stents, small mesh tubes used to treat narrow or weak blood vessels, in his heart. His body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.
