Interest in space technology solutions is growing in Greece.

During the first three years of operation of the local incubator of the European Space Agency in Greece (ESA BIC Greece), there has been interest registered from more than 10,000 people, 50 completed applications for joining the incubator were submitted, while 17 startups employing more than 90 people were incorporated.

Last month was the second-warmest September ever registered globally in an exceptional year "almost certain" to become the hottest on record, the EU climate monitor Copernicus said on Tuesday.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said the average global temperature last month was second only to September 2023.

One of the two companies involved in the project, ICEYE, is beginning its operations in Greece, investing long-term in human resources and infrastructure, laying the groundwork to expand its presence in the country. In this direction, ICEYE is planning the creation of a center of excellence, further showcasing the talent and potential that exists in Greece.

Last month was the second hottest July for the planet on record, breaking a 13-month period when each month was warmest, which had been in part fuelled by the warming El Nino weather pattern, the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service said on Thursday.

It is "increasingly likely" 2024 will be the hottest year on record, despite July ending a 13-month streak of monthly temperature records, the EU's climate monitor said Thursday.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said last month was the second warmest on record books going back to 1940, only slightly cooler than July 2023.

Last year was the planet's hottest on record by a substantial margin and likely the world's warmest in the last 100,000 years, the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said on Tuesday.

As part of NASA's Psyche mission, researchers from the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) have created a 300-million-kilometer-long communication "bridge" in space. 

A delegation of the European Space Agency (ESA) visiting Slovenia ahead of the vote on the country's full membership of the organisation has commended the country on the progress made since becoming an associate member in 2016.

For Slovenia to be admitted to the ESA as a full-fledged member in the December 2024 vote, a consensus of all of the agency's members will be needed.

Greece returned to a primary surplus in 2022, the Parliamentary Budget Office stated on Thursday in its report for the fourth quarter of 2022, based on the common European rules (European system of Accounts, or ESA) methodology, which is the only valid record after the end of enhanced surveillance.
