Family farm

Standing in his rubber boots in his fields surrounded by his beloved Red Holstein cows, Dutch farmer Gerard Hartveld has an air of resignation as he contemplates the future.
 
Hartveld says he is a dairy farmer in "his heart" and soul. Yet, his heart is heavy knowing that, like many who work the land today in The Netherlands, he has no-one to inherit his family farm.
 

BELGRADE - Serbian agriculture is dominated by mixed farms, since more than half of all the farms in the country (53.7 percent) belong to one of three groups of farms that both grow crops and breed animals, according to what has been said at the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce.

BELGRADE - Nearly 1.5 million people in Serbia are directly engaged in agriculture, and every fifth Serbian performs regular or seasonal agricultural work, it was stated at a press conference held Thursday in the Media Center in Belgrade.
