Fear

Virus anxiety spreads quickly among people: Study

Anxiety over the coronavirus pandemic is growing rapidly among Turkish society, a study carried out by the private Istanbul's Üsküdar University has shown.
The university conducted a research on the pandemic through online questionnaires in 81 provinces, with a total of 6,318 people having participated in the research.

Political reluctance

The opening on Thursday of Greece's first crematorium in Ritsona on the island of Evia serves as an example of the sometimes backward state of the country.

In Greece, a funerary custom which is anything but a novelty for most European countries became tangled up in a web of dogmatic beliefs that held it hostage to political reluctance for decades.

Australia is Considering Blocking Sites with Violent and Extremist Content

Australia is considering blocking websites that distribute violent and terrorist content. This was announced by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison during the G7 summit in Biarritz, quoted by BTA.

Morrison said those measures are needed to avoid the dissemination of such "disgusting materials" on the network.

Challenging received wisdom

There are silent truths and there are silent lies. Silent truths are usually so self-evident ("night follows day") that we don't need to articulate them. Lies of silence are more potent. They are easier to tell but more painful when they come to light. We know they are there, but we don't admit it.

The specter of fear

Fear had been erased in Greece after the fall of the 1967-74 dictatorship.

Citizens, judges, politicians and anyone else in the public eye knew they had nothing to be afraid of.

But the fear is back, as groups of hooligans threaten or exercise violence. Decisions are being made in a climate of fear and freedom of speech is under threat.

Lack of political will

The threat is not important in itself. The supporters of terrorism are too few and too marginalized to be considered a serious public security threat.

However, state inertia and political support from an obscure center have given them the asymmetrical power that allows them not just to disrupt city life, but also - and most importantly - to threaten judicial officials.

Bomb explodes outside Skai television station, no one hurt

A powerful bomb exploded outside private Greek television station Skai early Monday, causing extensive damage but no injuries.

Police said the blast occurred at 2:35 a.m. outside the broadcaster's headquarters in a coastal area near Athens after telephoned warnings to a news website and another TV station prompted authorities to evacuate the building.
