The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against Republican People's Party (CHP) former lawmaker Fikri Sağlar for "inciting the public to enmity and hatred" over his remarks on the issue of the headscarf.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has criticized the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) after a lawmaker said he is uncomfortable with seeing judges wear headscarves in court, describing the main opposition's mindset as "fascist."

A deputy for the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) was referred to the disciplinary board with an expulsion demand on May 7 following his remarks criticizing party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.   

The party assembly voted to refer Mersin deputy Fikri Sağlar to the disciplinary board with an expulsion demand by 38 votes to 19.

Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has commenced its schedule for a regular congress amid rising voices from party dissidents who have been pressing its leadership to hold an extraordinary congress.

The sole member of a leftist Turkish organization who was convicted and imprisoned eight years ago on charges of attempting to "change the constitutional order by force," was released on Nov. 28 after completing his prison term.
