Police launch internal investigation after video of mafia-style murder surfaces

The Greek Police (ELAS) has initiated an internal investigation to determine potential disciplinary actions against officers following the circulation of a video in local media showing the mafia-style assassination of a 54-year-old civil engineer in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Psychiko on July 2.

Suspicious envelope found at Russian embassy

A suspicious envelope was discovered at the Russian embassy in the northern Athens suburb of Palaio Psychiko on Friday morning.

Upon its discovery, embassy staff promptly alerted authorities. Soon after, members of the EMAK disaster response team and bomb disposal experts from the Greek Police (ELAS) arrived at the scene.

Strong rains, winds topple trees; shipping affected

The strong rains and winds across several parts of Greece felled trees and caused power outages.

Among the hardest hit areas were some of Athens' northern suburbs.

In the municipality of Filothei-Psychiko more than 40 trees were toppled and some streets remain closed to traffic, state broadcaster ERT reported.
