Rapidly Spreading Fires in Rila and Bulgarian-Turkish Border Challenge Firefighters

A fire that ignited last night in the high parts of Rila is spreading rapidly, with flames now advancing at an altitude of around 2,300 meters. The fire is located in difficult-to-access terrain above the Dupnik village of Bistrica, within the Rila National Park. Park officials and firefighters are working tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading into the forested areas.

The battle against fires in Bulgaria persists as emergency measures remain in place. The state of emergency continues in the municipalities of Harmanli and Topolovgrad due to ongoing fires near the village of Cherepovo in Sakar Planina, although there is no immediate threat to local residents.

Spanish Planes Join Battle Against Slavyanka Mountain Wildfire

Two Spanish aircraft have joined the efforts to combat the wildfire on Slavyanka Mountain, which has spread into Greece and affected approximately 1,200 acres of forest on the western front. The blaze, which has crossed into Bulgaria, has prompted an extensive response involving over 130 firefighters, forestry workers, and military personnel, focusing on the eastern front.

Driver injured after fire engine topples

The driver of a fire engine was injured on Thursday after the vehicle overturned while operating in central Evia.

According to information from the Fire Department, the fire engine fell into a side slope on its way to extinguish the fire raging in the area of Pissonas since Wednesday.

The driver was collected by an ambulance. 

Wildfire breaks out on Andros

A wildfire broke out shortly after noon on the island of Andros in the Strapouries area and residents have been urged to evacuate the area.

A team of six firefighters with two tenders, assisted by two aircraft and two helicopters, are attending the scene.

The fire service said a fire that broke out earlier on Salamina is now partially under control.

Battle against Pierian Mountains wildfire enters fourth day

Crews continued to battle a wildfire in the Pierian Mountains of the central Macedonia region for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday.

The firefighting operation comprises 36 fire engines manned by a crew of 150 members, along with nine teams of firefighters on foot, supplemented by two water-dropping helicopters.

Elderly man found dead after Athens apartment fire

Firefighters have found the body of an elderly man after extinguishing an apartment fire in Athens' Neos Kosmos suburb.

The fire service stated that the blaze broke out shortly after 10 a.m. in a bedroom in the apartment. 

Firefighters located the deceased 88-year-old man at the entrance to the apartment.

Seven firefighters and two fire engines attended the scene.
