Turkey lags behind world average in fish consumption
With nearly 8 kilograms fish consumption per capita annually, Turkey lags behind the world average of consumption of this healthy food, a top executive from a leading fish company says.
"In European countries, annual fish consumption per capita is almost 25 kg. In the Far East, it sharply increases and even reaches above 80 kg annually in Japan.

Actors, dancers and comedians stripped naked and posed with dead fish as part of Fishlove campaign.
The Fishlove campaign aims to take pressure away from eating popular fish, such as cod, by encouraging the consumption of lesser-known species like sprats, herring, mackerel and gurnard.

Products sold in EU's East "less good, and more expensive"
Fish sticks, meat dishes, spreads and canned tuna top the list of the products suspected of having higher quality in the "old" part of the EU than in the East.
This is according to daily Jutarnji List, published in Croatia, EU's newest member.
Turkey's fishing industry shrinking
Turkey?s fishing industry has been shrinking gradually since 2011 due to a decrease in fishing activities, although there has been an increase in fish breeding, according to a note published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜ?K) on July 7.

Jailed Israeli soldier freed after pork sandwich scandal
An Israeli soldier who was jailed earlier this week for eating a non-kosher sandwich has been freed after the army agreed to release him following a wave of public pressure.
The soldier, who recently immigrated to Israel from America, was initially jailed for 11 days after eating a sandwich containing pork, which is forbidden by Jewish dietary law, public radio reported.
