Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said on Aug. 18 that the municipality will scrutinize the city's infrastructure after flash floods killed one person the previous day.

Hit by flash floods and landslides, the governorship of Düzce declared the northwestern province, a disaster-prone area on July 24.         

Flash flood on July 17 stranded many people in northwestern Turkey after blocking roads and causing heavy damage to the buildings.         

At least six people died after a flash flood swept away Trabzon, a Black Sea province in northern Turkey, a local official said on June 18.

Flood prevention works were underway in Mandra, western Attica, where 25 people died in flash flooding in November 2017. Attica Governor Rena Dourou visited the site of the works on Tuesday, which aim to bolster the banks of the Aghia Aikaterini and Soures streams and rebuild a section of highway that was destroyed in 2017. The works are expected to have been completed by summer.

The relatives of three people who died following flash flooding in Mandra, western Attica, in November 2017 have brought legal action against nine state officials, seeking compensation for mental anguish.

An expert report aimed at curbing the damage wreaked by flash floods has warned that there are dozens of spots around Greece that could face the same fate as Mandra in western Attica, where 23 people died in flooding last November.

As autumn showers loom, the Infrastructure Ministry and Attica Regional Authority are scrambling to complete several projects that they hope will prevent the kind of flash floods that killed more than 20 people last November in Mandra, west of Athens.
