At least 281 people died and more than 1,000 were injured when the waves washed ashore along western Java and southern Sumatra islands Dec. 22 night following a volcanic eruption. Report warns of flood risk

An expert report aimed at curbing the damage wreaked by flash floods has warned that there are dozens of spots around Greece that could face the same fate as Mandra in western Attica, where 23 people died in flooding last November.

Code Yellow for Floods in Covasna, Brasov and Buzau counties

Bucharest, Aug 18 /Agerpres/ - The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management issued on Saturday afternoon a Code Yellow for Floods in the Covasna, Brasov and Buzau counties, valid until 11:00 pm.

According to hydrologists, due to the rainfall there is potential local flooding effects and increase in flows and levels of rivers, in the counties of Covasna, Brasov and Buzau.

Central Greece district hit by flash floods

At least two villages were flooded near Lamia, central Greece, on Friday after the river Spercheios swelled due to heavy thunderstorms.

Online footage showed locals trying to protect themselves and their homes from the rising waters as streams overflowed their banks and barreled through the villages of Styrfaka and Lygaria.

There were no reports of injuries.

Athens suburbs hit by heavy rainfall, flash floods

Cars float in a parking lot-turned-muddy lake following a squall in the northern Athens suburb of Maroussi, Thursday. Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and closed a side road off the main highway leading north out of the capital. The fire department received more than 200 calls for assistance, including pumping water from flooded homes and businesses.
