The Earth Has Lost 12 million Hectares of Tropical Forests in 2018
In 2018 12 million hectares of tropical rainforests or 30 football fields per minute were destroyed, the World Resources Institute reported. 3.64 million of these destroyed forests are primary and essential for climate and biodiversity, BTA reports.
Turkish gov't extends deadline to buy unregistered lands
The Turkish government has extended a deadline for citizens who have applied to obtain deeds for unregistered lands, which were formerly classified as forestry areas and dubbed "2B lands," by making the required payments but were not able to acquire them, a top official has announced.
Bulgaria's Brankovtsi Protests Against Illegal Felling
People living in the village of Brankovtsi near Vidin protested Friday against the illegal deforestation in the vicinity.
According to protesters close to 1,000 cubic meters of wood have been cut in the village forest, but local inspectors report one third of that number.
