Fire breaks out in Fourni, evacuation alert sent

A wildfire broke out on Saturday afternoon on the Eastern Aegean island complex of Fourni, the fire service said. 

The blaze is burning low vegetation in the Kamari area of the Fourni Korseon municipality, on the main island. Only volunteers were available to tackle the flames using four water tankers but eight firefighters and a helicopter are expected to arrive at the island soon.

Port authority to acquire 11 boats for transfer of patients from islands

The port authority is set to acquire 11 boats that will be used to transfer patients from islands to hospitals, under an agreement signed on Monday between Maritime Affairs and Island Policy Minister Christos Stylianides and the Greek subsidiary of a Danish maritime safety equipment manufacturer.

Multiple Greek airspace violations recorded on Wednesday

Turkish fighter jets violated Greek airspace in the eastern Aegean three times on Wednesday, according to the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA).

A pair of Turkish F-16s entered Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) without submitting a flight plan and flew at 25,000 feet over the islets of Panagia and Oinousses at 3.29 p.m.
