Why the high radiation levels at Fukushima reactor is bad news

According to Japan Times, a containment vessel at the destroyed Fukushima No. 1 power plant has reached off-the-chart radiation levels.

 

The reading of 530 sieverts per hour represents the highest level of radiation the reactor site has seen since March 2011 almost six years ago.

 

Fukushima nuclear decommission, compensation costs to almost double-media

TOKYO, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Japan's trade ministry has almost doubled the estimated cost of compensation for the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster and decommissioning of the damaged Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant to more than 20 trillion yen ($177.51 billion), the Nikkei business daily reported on Nov. 27. 

Murakami says Japan ignoring WWII, Fukushima role: Report

Japanese writer Haruki Murakami has chided his country for shirking responsibility for its World War II aggression and the Fukushima nuclear disaster in an interview published Nov. 3.

Speaking to the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper, the 65-year-old author said: "No one has taken real responsibility for the 1945 war end or the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident. I feel so." 

Minor Tsunami Hit Fukushima Coast After Strong Earthquake

Minor tsunami hit the northern Japanese coastline early Saturday, including in a city near the Fukushima nuclear plant, reports Japan Times. 

It was caused by a strong 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the Pacific coast.There were no immediate reports of damage, however, and authorities lifted all advisories roughly two hours later.
