Göreme, a well-known tourist destination in central Turkey famous for its surreal landscape with intricate rock formations, has been ranked among the world's most beautiful towns in a list prepared by assessing their popularity across social media.

Turkey's world-famous Cappadocia region, home to fabled fairy chimneys and stunning balloon rides, welcomed over 60,000 tourists this May, local tourism officials said in a statement on June 11.

According to authorities in the central Nevşehir province, 61,634 people visited 17 top tourist sites in Cappadocia.

The Turkish Film Commission is making efforts to attract the attention of film companies to Cappadocia, which is a natural film set with its historical and cultural riches as well as its interesting geographical beauties.

As tourism picks up in Turkey thanks to effective COVID-19 safety measures, the picturesque Cappadocia region hosted nearly 200,000 visitors in the first quarter of 2021, according to the latest government figures.

Artist Hatice Abalı, who lives in the Göreme district of the Central Anatolian province of Nevşehir, has been creating unique artifacts by painting fairy girls on the rocks unique to the region.

In place of an ordinary wedding ceremony, a couple chose to solemnize their marriage in a hot air balloon flying over the historical Cappadocia region.

"I am very very happy," said 23-year-old groom, İbrahim Korkmaz, after getting married to his 24-year-old bride, Gülten Kaya, above 1,000 meters in the sky.

Turkey's picturesque Cappadocia region that offers visitors fabulous vacation opportunities with its unique natural, historical and cultural richness is gearing up for Ukrainian tourists.

Tourism professionals in the region are excited to start direct flights from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv to central Anatolia's Nevsehir province beginning March 25.

Cappadocia, located in the Central Anatolian province of Nevşehir, and a popular tourist hotspot in Turkey, hosted 87,000 visitors in last month amid the ongoing pandemic.
