Turkey will witness a wave of scorching heat across the country by the weekend, especially in the country's west with the temperatures rising between 4 to 12 degrees Celsius above the norms, the Turkish State Meteorological Service has said.

A 26-kilometer bicycle track in southern Turkey built to host national and international events and boost nature and sea tourism in the region is experiencing a service interruption since some parts of the iron barriers of the path have been stolen by unknown people.
Loyal Turkish dog inseparable from late owner
Since his elderly owner passed away last week, a loyal dog in Turkey's Black Sea region has been regularly visiting his master's gravesite.
Ömer Güven, who was 92 when he died, adopted Fero 11 years ago when he was a stray dog.
The owner's daughter-in-law, Fatma Güven, said that the old man and the former stray enjoyed a very close bond with each other.

Ex-HDP MP Güven sentenced to 22 years in prison
A court on Dec. 21 sentenced Leyla Güven, a former deputy from the opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) to over 22 years in prison for being a member of an armed terrorist group and making propaganda for it twice.
The 9th Heavy Penal Court in southeastern Diyarbakir province handed Güven 22 years and three months in prison and issued an arrest warrant for her.

Turkish driver claims 2 wins in Bahrain
Turkish driver Ayhancan Güven won the third and fourth Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East races in Bahrain on Dec. 6.
"2 pole, 2 win. Thanks DHL and Lechner Racing," Güven said on Twitter.
The first-ever race of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East took place on Dec.11, 2009 at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Court releases arrested former HDP lawmaker
A Turkish court on June 8 ruled in favor of releasing former opposition lawmaker Leyla Güven from prison.
Güven, who was stripped of her legislative immunity and arrested last week, had been sentenced to six years and three months for being a member of an "armed terror organization."
