The Istanbul governor has ordered to move a CCTV camera pole placed in front of the Galata Tower to another location following complaints from tourists as it stands as an obstacle for people trying to take their photos with the 14th-century structure.

The priceless giant Genoese coat of arms on the outer wall of Palazzo del Comune, which was built in 1316 and is considered one of the unique historical buildings of Istanbul, was stolen by thieves.

Cell phone footage of restoration workers drilling down the stone wall of Istanbul's 14th-century Galata Tower created a political firestorm. An officer of the Istanbul Municipality tweeted a clip of two restoration workers taking apart a corner section of the tower's inner wall with jackhammers. A pile of large stones lay at their feet as they worked.

Restaurants and offices inside the Galata Tower will be evacuated and the historical tower will be turned into a museum, Turkey's culture and tourism minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced on June 8.

Two historic towers near Istanbul's landmark Galata Tower, which has an important place in the unique silhouette of the city, face the danger of collapse.

The six-hundred-year-old towers, which have been heavily damaged from the groundwork to the top, are in a very weak state, according to experts.

Turkey's largest metropolis Istanbul has celebrated the anniversary of its two landmark transportation systems in the historical Beyoğlu district.

The historic tram connecting Istanbul's Tünel Square and Taksim Square made a celebration tour to mark its 106th anniversary on Feb. 11.

Galata and Beyazıt towers, two of Istanbul's most iconic structures, were lit up in pink respectively on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15, as part of events marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
