Halep (aged 26), last year's finalist and in 2014, managed to defeat her opponent after two hours and 14 minutes.

Tennis: Ana Bogdan qualifies for Monterrey WTA tournament semifinals
Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan qualified for the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, with total prizes worth 226750 USD, on Friday, after she defeated US player Danielle Collins, 6-2, 6-4.
Bogdan (25 years, WTA's 90th), 6th seed, won in one hour and 18 minutes against a better ranked player, (24 years, WTA's 53rd), a recent semifinalist in Miami.
Romania's Halep advances to Doha women's singles semis
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world number two, on Friday advanced to the women's singles semi-finals of the 3,173,000-USD WTA Qatar Total Open 2018 tournament in Doha after defeating American teen player Catherine Bellis 6-0 6-4.
Halep, 26, prevailed in an hour and 22 minutes over world number 48 Bellis.

Krunic fails to reach Brisbane semi-finals
BRISBANE - Serbian tennis player Aleksandra Krunic has ended her campaign at the Brisbane WTA tournament after losing 6-2, 6-4 to Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Failing to emulate her excellent performances from the previous two rounds, when she knocked out German Carina Witthoeft and Spanard Garbine Muguruza, Krunic was defeated after 87 minutes.

Krunic through to Brisbane quarters as Muguruza retires
BRISBANE - Serbia's top-ranked female tennis player Aleksandra Krunic is through to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane tournament after Garbine Muguruza of Spain retired from their match on Tuesday due to cramps.
Interestingly, this was the fourth consecutive retirement in Brisbane for Muguruza, who was leading 7-5, 6-7 (3), 2-1.

Garbine Muguruza Beats Venus Williams to Win 1st Title
Spain's Garbine Muguruza won her first Wimbledon title with a straight-set win over five-time champion Venus Williams, according to BBC sports.
The 23-year-old saved two set points and won the last nine games in a 7-5 6-0 victory under the Centre Court roof.
