Gas-fired power plant

The amendment imposing a special levy on natural gas power plants, which is set at 10 euros per megawatt-hour, has been submitted to Parliament.

Revenues from the special levy will be used to fund a subsidy on household electricity tariffs in August, the amount of which will be finalized by the end of the week, to keep final consumer prices close to 15 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Athens-listed Mytilineos announced on Thursday that, in a joint venture with Siemens Energy Global and Siemens Energy Sp. z o.o., it has undertaken the construction of a 560 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) unit with associated infrastructure at the Adamow Power Plant in the Turek region of Poland.

While fossil-generated gas accounts for only 20 percent of Europe's electricity, gas-fired power plants are increasing the price of electricity, thanks to higher demand, low renewable energy supplies and the global increase in coal prices.
