The Central Archaeological Council has approved a plan to improve the visitor experience at Ancient Messene in the southwest Peloponnese, one of the country's top archaeological sites.

The first of the three joint ministerial decisions that will fast-track the big investment project at Elliniko, the former site of the Athens airport, was published in the Government Gazette on Thursday.

It concerns the Metropolitan Park, which will cover an area of 200 hectares - about a quarter of the total - of which about 40 will be built.

Ten workers were killed at a construction site in Istanbul when an elevator carrying them suddenly plunged to the ground from the 32th floor late on Sept. 6.

The accident occurred at the construction site of the Torunlar Center, which is being built on the former site of Galatasaray’s Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Şişli’s Mecidiyeköy neighborhood.
