At least 30 people were killed on Tuesday when a giant motorway bridge collapsed in Genoa, with several more feared dead in what Italy's transport minister described as an "immense tragedy".

Reuters reported that Minsiter of Transportation Danilo Toninelli warned the accident has likely resulted in "an immense tragedy."
The agency cited Italy's Adnkronos as reporting that local health officials believe "dozens" have died in the collapse.
Later in the day, Adnkronos said the death toll had reached 22 people.

An Italian port has beaten off foreign competition to scrap the hulk of the Costa Concordia cruise ship that sank off the Tuscan coast in 2012, leaving 32 dead.
"I can confirm that... the dismantling of the ship will take place in an Italian port," Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi said Friday.
