Wild Fires Across Southern France and Corsica threaten homes.
Hundreds of firefighters were battling blazes across southern France on Monday, with one inferno spreading across 900 hectors of forest and threatening homes on the island of Corsica, emergency services said.
Breaking: Area near Lyon evacuated
According to reports, an area close to the French city of Lyon has been evacuated after police detected a car with 14 gas bottles. Police have cordoned off the area of Chasse-sur-Rhône after they and special bomb squad was sent to investigate a Peugeot 406. Local media report a driver has been arrested.

Paris mayor to spend 1.5 mln euros for 'war on rats'
The mayor of Paris said March 12 the city would spend 1.5 million euros ($1.6 million) to rid the French capital of rats and install more public ashtrays to clean up the city's streets.
In an interview with Journal du Dimanche weekly, Mayor Anne Hidalgo unveiled a 10-point plan aimed at making cleanliness a "priority," according to AFP.
