Be there when Christmas lights are switched on in Ljubljana! Following a short festive ceremony and an address by the Mayor of Ljubljana, all the city's festive lights will be turned on simultaneously.

One thing that has definitely helped put Ljubljana on the global tourism map is that the city centre has been turned into a big pedestrianised area and given a through facelift.

With the traffic fumes and noise gone, the locals and visitors can now enjoy the heritage of the city's architect, Jože Plečnik (1872-1957), in all its glory.

The decision to move the first festival evening to Piran came about among other things because of the support of the local community, Rok Košir, a member of the programme board, has told the press.

The story of an innovative city came to life in 2015, as two innovation centres opened their doors in BTC City Ljubljana: ABC Accelerator and the start-up centre ABC Hub.

The exhibition depicts how Ljubljana dealt with new industries as they arrived, according to the museum's director Blaž Peršin, who said it offered the experience of "travel through time and space"

The first outdoor library will open in Ljubljana's Tivoli Park, one of eight locations in the Slovenian capital and arguably the most popular such venue in the country.

Another popular spot is on Ljubljana Castle, one of the main tourist attractions in the city, where the selection of books is tailored to foreigners, who make up the bulk of the castle visitors.

The main venue for the various activities and admission-free events will be the Green Capital of Europe information office in front of the town hall.

The city administration will present a project on renewal of degraded urban surfaces, while visitors will be able to learn about urban gardening and farming.

A campaign against ragweed Gloves on! will also get under way.

Croatia is withdrawing from the arbitration agreement on the Piran Bay, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic has announced.

Milanovic told an extraordinary press conference on Monday that arbitration proceedings had been "contaminated."
