Ferry rescues shipwrecked man between Tinos and Mykonos

The crew of a ferry rescued a 40-year-old shipwrecked man on a lifeboat in the sea area between Tinos and Mykonos on Monday.

According to reports, the rescue was carried out by the Super Express ferry, which was on a route from the island of Mykonos to the port of Rafina.

The 40-year-old was the sole occupant of a private boat that sunk. 

Departures for Orthodox Easter to peak in next few hours

A total of 18 ferries were scheduled to depart from the port of Piraeus on full capacity for the Aegean islands and 32 for the islands of the Argosaronic Gulf on Friday, as the last of Easter travelers depart from Athens. 

Another 14 ferries are scheduled to depart from the port of Rafina and 10 from the port of Lavrio for the Aegean islands.

Seajets agreement with Golden Star Ferries for three fast and one conventional ferry

The Stefanou brothers, who control Golden Star, are in discussions with Marios Iliopoulos of SeaJets, according to sources who are aware of the developments, in order to transfer fast ferries SUPERRUNNER (it operated on the Heraklion-Santorini route), SUPERSPEED and SUPERCAT and the conventional SUPERFERRY II, which plied the route from Piraeus to Cyclades.

Small shipping firms fight for market share

Large passenger shipping companies no longer dominate the Greek market. According to a study by XRTC Business Consultants, the big players, Attica Group (which operates Blue Star, Super Fast and Hellenic Seaways), ANEK and Minoan Lines, accounted for 38 percent of sea passenger traffic in 2018, down from 57 percent in 2014.
