Ursula von der Leyen: The European Union does not Want a Hard Brexit
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she would extend the negotiation term for Brexit if London gives a good reason for that, Reuters reported.
In an interview with several European newspapers, including the German Zeitung, von der Leyen said the EU will wait for the new British Prime Minister to be elected first and then try to negotiate.
Bulgarian Temporarily Became the Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission
Bulgarian Mina Andreeva has been appointed temporarily as the European Commission's chief spokesperson. This was confirmed at a press conference, BTA reports.
So far, Andreeva has been the deputy to the main speaker Margaritis Schinas. The Greek government proposed on Thursday Schinas to be appointed as EU commissioner in the next EC formation with President Ursula von der Leyen.
New German ambassador to Athens assumes post with greeting in Greek
In a post on Twitter in Greek and German, Germany's new ambassador in Athens, Ernst Reichel, announced his arrival.
Reichel, who said "Hello Greece!" in both Greek and Germany, previously served as Germany's ambassador to Ukraine and as the head of the German Foreign Ministry's office for Southeastern Europe and Turkey.

The election of Germany's Ursula von der Leyen as European Commission president is a positive development. Had she been rejected, the European Union would have suffered a fresh blow at a time when it is under pressure from within and without. However, we cannot ignore the fact that von der Leyen was imposed from "above" rather than being selected in the traditional manner.

Anastasiades congratulates new EU boss
Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades congratulated Ursula von der Leyen on becoming the European Commission's next president, narrowly winning election in the European Parliament.
Anastasiades took to Twitter to congratulate von der Leyen, who is the first woman to fill the EU's top job after she was confirmed by 383 votes against 327.

European Parliament confirmed Von der Leyen as the new European Commission President
German Ursula Von der Leyen was elected President of European Commission in Brussels.
On 1 November, Von der Leyen will be the first woman to take on the Commission presidency.
383 MEPs supported her, while 327 opposed her election. In order to be elected to the post, she needed 374 votes out of the present 747 Members of European Parliament.

Ursula von der Leyen was confirmed as the European Commission president on July 16, becoming the first woman to hold one of the most prestigious positions in the European Union and who will be one of the most prominent faces from the bloc on the world stage.

German minister confirmed for top EU post
The European Union's parliament has confirmed German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen to be the new president of the EUs executive commission.
The European Parliament voted 383-327 vote with 22 abstentions on Tuesday to approve von der Leyen's nomination. She will be the first woman to serve as European Commission president.
