The victory for the 29-year-old comes after a third place at the Giro d'Italia this year, another Grand Tour. He sat out the Tour de France to prepare for la Vuelta but also because he became father for the first time.

Pogačar wins 9th stage of Vuelta, Roglič advances to 2nd overall
In his debut appearance in a Grand Tour Race, the 20-year old UAE Team Emirates rider became only a third Slovenian with a stage win at the tour of Spain after Borut Božič and Matej Mohorič.
Roglič wins stage nine at Giro d'Italia
Roglič, who already won the opening time trial, finished today's race on wet roads that ended with a 12-kilometre ascent to San Marino, in 51 minutes and 52 seconds.
Belgian Victor Campenaerts, the European champion who broke the hour record last month, came 11 seconds behind him, followed by Dutch Bauke Mollema, who was a minute behind.
