Nation marks Great Offensive with week-long events
Türkiye is commemorating the 102nd anniversary of the Great Offensive, the largest and final military operation of Türkiye's War of Independence, with a series of events in the western city of Afyonkarahisar.
Led by modern Türkiye founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the offensive began on Aug. 26, 1922, and culminated in a victory against the Kingdom of Greece within five days.

Military expo opened to commemorate Great Offensive
Within the scope of the 100th anniversary of the Great Offensive, Turkish armed forces have opened an exhibition in the Aegean province of Afyonkarahisar.
"We are proud to host such an event," said Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, the governor of Afyonkarahisar.
The governor made a call to all the citizens to visit the most comprehensive military expo.
İzmir marks 99th anniversary of its liberation from occupation
A victory march in which a giant 350-meter Turkish flag was carried by the people on Sept. 9 marked the 99th anniversary of the liberation of Turkey's Aegean province of İzmir.

Turkish people marked the 99th anniversary of the Great Offensive, a major counterattack launched by Turkish armies under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the father of modern Turkey, against occupying Greek forces in 1922.

Villager finds artillery shell from Great Offensive in backyard
An unexploded artillery shell, presumably left from the Turkish War of Independence, was found in the backyard of a house in the Aegean province of Afyonkarahisar.

Hunters bring along pigs they killed to Erdek liberation ceremony
A group of local hunters joined the 95th anniversary celebrations marking the liberation of the northwestern town of Erdek from Greek occupation during Turkey's War of Independence, together with dead pigs that they hunted, Doğan News Agency reported on Sept. 25.
