Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen will visit Athens on Tuesday to sign a bilateral agreement with Greek Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis. 

The agreement will focus on the Greece-Cyprus-Israel electrical interconnection project (Great Sea Interconnector), which faces delays due to the slow progress of the Crete-Cyprus segment. 

ExxonMobil, in partnership with Qatar Energy, is planning to drill two more wells in Cyprus' offshore Blocks 5 and 10 early next year. The announcement came after a meeting between ExxonMobil Vice President John Ardill and Cyprus' President Nikos Christodoulides, alongside Energy Minister George Papanastasiou.

The power interconnection of Greece and Cyprus, with the prospect of an extension to Israel, is now back in track after the memorandum of understanding signed on Friday by the two countries' energy ministers and the Cypriot energy watchdog approved the 125-million-euro investment in the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI).

The leaders of Cyprus, France and Greece will meet in New York next week to discuss the Israel-Cyprus-Greece power grid connection and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus' government spokesman said Saturday.

Nicosia has today approved Cyprus’s participation in the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project with a cabinet decision that agrees to pay €25 million annually for 5 years, as proposed by ADMIE (Independent Power Transmission Operator), to make the Cyprus-Crete electrical interconnection project viable.

It is noted that the Cypriot presidency has announced that statements are expected at 6 p.m. by the Minister of Energy, Giorgos Papanastasiou, at the Presidential Palace.
