Researchers came upon the landmass on an expedition in July, and initially thought they had reached Oodaaq, up until now the northernmost island on the planet.

Rain on Greenland ice sheet signals climate change risk

Rain fell at the highest point on Greenland's ice sheet - possibly for the first time - in an event Danish scientists on  Aug. 23 said was most likely driven by climate change.

The rain was observed for several hours on August 14 at a measuring post more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) up on the sheet, the U.S. Snow and Ice Data Center reported.

Greenland's Largest Airport Is Closing due to Climate Change

Greenland's largest airport will be closed due to climate change. The airport north of the capital Nuuk serves 11,000 aircraft annually and serves as a base for travel across the vast island.

The reason for the closure is the melting of the permafrost. The ever-frozen ground on which the airport was built began to melt from the higher temperatures. This causes cracks.
