Negative inflation was recorded at supermarkets in August, the fourth consecutive month of negative inflation, according to a survey by the Institute for Research on Consumer Goods Retailing (IELKA).

Supermarket prices for consumer goods also went down in July.

Prices at supermarket chains will fall by 1.92% in June 2024 compared to June 2023, a targeted survey by the Consumer Goods Retail Research Institute (IELKA) exclusively to the channel of large supermarket chains on inflationary trends in organised food retailing.

The following conclusions emerged from the survey:

"I don't really shop for groceries as often as I used to," said Jasmine Reed, 32, outside a store in northern Virginia, as she explained the impact of higher food prices on her shopping habits.

Consumer inflation data published on May 16 showed that food prices rose by 2.2 percent in the 12 months to April, masking some sharp differences between items.

Starting November 15, Bulgarian consumers can expect lower prices on various goods in grocery stores participating in the "Affordable for You" initiative ("Достъпно за вас"). Initially scheduled for November 1, the initiative aims to establish consistently affordable prices.

Development Minister Kostas Skrekas announced on Wednesday a list of 233 products that have so far been included in the permanent price reduction measure, which aims for more affordable grocery pricing. The price cuts starting from 5% and reaching up to 23% will be implemented for six months.
