Tajik opposition leader killed in gun attack in Istanbul

Tajik opposition leader Umarali Kuvatov was killed in a gun attack in Istanbul late on March 5.

Kuvatov, the leader of Group 24, an opposition movement in Tajikistan, was reportedly walking on the street in the Fatih district after having dinner at his friend's house when an unknown assailant shot him in the head.

Citigroup sells stake in Turkey's Akbank for $1.2 bln

Citigroup has sold its nearly 10 percent stake in Turkey?s Akbank for $1.2 billion, the U.S. lender said on March 5, its latest disposal of overseas assets to cut costs and boost profits.

New York-based Citi has been paring back in international markets in recent years, pulling out of retail banking inTurkey as well as long-established businesses such as Japan.

Turkey launches new raids on wire-tapping suspects

Turkish authorities on Feb. 25 launched a nationwide sweep targeting suspects accused of wiretapping top officials including President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, state media said.
      
The chief prosecutor's office in the capital Ankara issued arrest warrants for 54 people of whom 40 have been arrested so far, the official Anadolu News Agency reported.
      

Second arrest warrant issued for Gülen, first one for Uslu

A Turkish criminal court on Feb. 24 issued another arrest warrant for the U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen as a part of the probe into the ?parallel state,? in which 28 suspects have been arrested so far. The court also issued an arrest warrant for Emre Uslu, a columnist and a former police official.
