Israelis prefer Turkey for hair transplantation

Israeli men come to Turkey to have hair transplant operations despite strained political relations between Israel and Turkey.

Nearly 200,000 Israelis visited Turkey in 2014 but the figure exceeded 500,000 in 2019, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute.

The majority of Israeli tourists come for good medical service, especially plastic surgery and hair transplants.

An Iraqi-origin British citizen, who arrived in Istanbul to undergo "VIP hair transplantation," has been beaten and robbed by a group that claimed they would operate the transplant surgery. 

The British man, identified only by the initials A.H., preferred Istanbul for the surgery as the city is reputed to be one of the most significant hubs for hair transplant tourism.

But he has one more, less conventional purpose -- to have 1,500 strands of hair implanted one by one, in an increasingly popular anti-hair loss treatment in the Turkish metropolis.

Turkey ranks the world's first for the number of hair transplant operations carried out, amid rapidly rising demand from Arab citizens from Gulf countries.

A senior official from the Health Ministry, Ömer Tontu?, said over 200 hair transplant operations were carried out daily in Turkey, mainly on foreign patients.
