Controversial Judges Chosen for Romanian Constitutional Court

The bicameral Romanian parliament on Tuesday elected two new judges at the Constitutional Court - Bogdan Licu and Laura-Iuliana Scantei, both of whom are believed to be close to President Klaus Iohannis.

Licu, who was nominated by the Social Democratic Party, PSD, for the position, was supported 208 lawmakers in the Chamber of Deputies while 93 voted against.

Social Democratic Party (PSD) candidate to presidency Viorica Dancila has invited mass-media representatives to an "open dialogue" on Tuesday, 6.00 pm, with the event to take place at the Palace of Parliament, the Spiru Haret Hall, according to a release of the party's press office. Access will be free to all mass-media representatives designated by the institutions they represent.

President Iohannis: Modern education needs elite, well prepared, motivated teachers

The educational system must provide young people with the necessary skills for the labour market, including adjustment to the challenges of a digital society, President Klaus Iohannis told the participants at the event "Contribution of education to the development of modern Romania," organised by the Spiru Haret Federation of Teachers' Trade Unions in Bucharest on Friday.
