Israeli killing of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah has pushed the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East into a new extent and a more precarious dimension, with several uncertainties and the risk of further escalation gripping the region.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Saturday said Israel's expanding military actions, particularly the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, suggests it has a desire to take the Gaza conflict to the region.

Israel's foes vowed revenge on Saturday after Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah announced its longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike on Beirut suburbs.

World powers also warned of the killing's potential repercussions, with the spectre of all-out war looming over the Middle East.

The elimination of Hezbollah’s leader by an Israeli military strike near Beirut is “an act of justice” for his many victims, including thousands of American, Israeli, and Lebanese citizens, said U.S. President Joe Biden today.

“The U.S. fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself,” Biden reiterated in his statement.

Israel has confirmed the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in airstrikes conducted by the Israeli military in Beirut.

Overnight, Israel continued its airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, targeting Hezbollah's strongholds. The Israeli military confirmed that precision strikes were aimed at Hezbollah's central command, where the group is believed to store anti-ship missiles. Eyewitnesses reported over 20 explosions, with the attacks lasting for five hours.

According to Israeli sources, the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, is dead after the attack launched by Israel on the organization’s headquarters in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Israel has targeted Hezbollah commanders in airstrikes in Beirut amid an escalating conflict with the Iranian-backed Lebanese group.

The situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile and appears increasingly grim. In Western capitals, there is significant concern about a potential escalation of Israel’s conflict with the terrorist organizations Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iranian involvement cannot be dismissed either.
