Oxfam has revealed that the wealth accumulated by the richest 1 percent of the global population has surged to 42 trillion dollars over the past decade, which is nearly 34 times more than the wealth held by the bottom 50 percent. This finding was disclosed ahead of the G20 finance ministers and central bankers meeting starting today in Rio de Janeiro.

Türkiye emerged as the frontrunner in the surge of ultra-rich people worldwide last year, according to a report by Knight Frank, a U.K.-based real estate consultancy.

The report, which compares data from 2022 to 2023, defines "ultra-rich" as those with fortunes exceeding $30 million.

Turkey home to 100,000 millionaires

Turkey now boasts more than 100,000 millionaires, making it the Middle East's top country for the wealthy, according to an expert on high net worth individuals.

Andrew Amoils of the London-based New World Wealth predicted that Turkey would see a 60 percent increase in the number of millionaires living in the country by 2025.

Nearly a million joined millionaire club last year

The number of people worth $1 million or more rose by 920,000 last year, hitting a record 14.6 million. It was the sixth straight year-on-year increase as rising stock prices lifted the value of personal wealth in a few key countries, according to a report from consultant Capgemini and RBC Wealth Management.
