UNFICYP cautions against hunting in Cyprus' buffer zone
The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus says hunting in the buffer zone is a security risk and strictly prohibited.
In a statement released on Thursday, on the occasion of the start of the hunting season in Cyprus, UNFICYP cautions that such activities in the buffer zone, as well as the use of weapons, dogs or equipment in this context, is a security risk and banned.
UNFICYP report to be handed to Security Council members
The UN Secretary-General's report on the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) is expected to be handed over to the UN Security Council members on Thursday or Friday the latest.
The report will also be posted on the UN website.

Nicosia is keeping an eye on New York ahead of a UNFICYP vote next week, as the US and UK are mulling over the precise content in a draft resolution for the renewal of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus.

Akinci wants UN troop revision
In a letter to the United Nations Security Council, Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci has called for a reassessment of the UN peacekeeping force's (UNFICYP) mandate on the island.
His letter was sent in response to Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades's request that UNFICYP's mandate be renewed for six more months until January 31, 2019.

Lacroix in Cyprus for talks on peacekeeping operations
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix was in Cyprus Wednesday for talks with government officials, local authorities and community representatives.
Resolution renewal for UN Cyprus force expected on January 30
The resolution for the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations peacekeeping force on Cyprus (UNIFCYP) is expected to be adopted by the UN Security Council on January 30.
Moreover, according to reports, the Security Council members will receive the six-monthly report of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on UNFICYP by January 10 at the latest.

The Cypriot Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed its satisfaction over the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) approval of a resolution for the extension of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for another 6 months.
