German president visits site of Thessaloniki Holocaust museum

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has visited the site of Holocaust museum being built in Thessaloniki as he began a three-day state visit.

Steinmeier visited the site near an old railway station in the northern city, from where tens of thousands of Jews were transported to Nazi concentration camps during the World War II German occupation.

Writer Boris Pahor laid to rest in Trieste

Trieste – Several hundred people gathered at St Ana’s Cemetery in Trieste on Tuesday to lay to rest Boris Pahor, one of the greatest Slovenian writers. Pahor was paid respects by several Slovenian politicians and other public figures, who highlighted the high moral and ethical standards of the writer and witness to all three totalitarianisms.

Acclaimed Slovenian writer Boris Pahor celebrates 108th birthday

Ljubljana – Boris Pahor, the internationally famous Slovenian writer from Trieste, celebrates his 108th birthday on Thursday. Throughout his life, Pahor has warned against totalitarian regimes, also in his novel Necropolis, where he describes his experiences in Nazi concentration camps. He has also received numerous honours and awards.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla's parents among the few Thessaloniki Jews to survive the Holocaust

Albert Bourla, Chairman and CEO of US pharmaceuticals company Pfizer, shared the story of his parents, Jews from Thessaloniki, and how they managed to be among the 2,000 survivors from a community of 50,000 nearly eradicated by the Holocaust.

Holocaust victims remembered in commemoration ceremony held in Bucharest

The victims of the Holocaust were honored today in Bucharest in a commemorative ceremony attended by Israeli ambassador David Saranga, deputy and president of the Federation of the Romanian Jewish Communities (FCER) Silviu Vexler, and general director of the "Elie Wiesel" Institute, Alexandru Florian.
