A Turkish police officer has been sentenced to 13 years and four months in prison for killing of a young man in southern Turkey during mass Gezi Park demonstrations in 2013.

Three Romanian citizens have been arrested on suspicion that they murdered an elderly couple in the village of Brodice, near Pozarevac, eastern Serbia.

The Interior Ministry (MUP) also said that the three - V.G., born in 1961, F.G. (1967) and V.D. (1972) - are being held on the order of the prosecution based on suspicion that they committed the criminal act of aggravated murder.

Some 413 murders of women were reported by the Turkish media in 2015, the Umut (Hope) Foundation has stated in a new report, underlining that the trend has been increasing since the beginning of 2016.

The foundation called on Feb. 16 for NGOs to conduct comprehensive studies on the issue, which it described as a "mass murder of women." 

When figures concerning femicides are revealed, the same debate always comes up: Have they increased or have they not increased? 

Some say they have increased. Others say they have not increased, that it was only "selectivity in perception." 

As in many other matters, because it is difficult to find proper data, this discussion does not lead anywhere. 

Some 109 women have been killed and 44 others have been injured in southeastern Turkey, according to 2015 Violation of Women Rights Toll released by Human Rights Association's (?HD) Diyarbak?r branch during a press statement on Feb. 5.

The mother and stepfather of murdered Kostis Polyzos were led to the prosecutor of Kozani on Thursday morning on charges of killing their son. The two are being held on charges of homicide with intent.

Due to the nature of the crime, they are expected to finish their apology in the afternoon.

There were at least 1,500 homicide victims in 2015 across Turkey in areas under surveillance by the police and where 86 percent of the country's population lives, police records have shown.

The figures indicated there was an increase of more than 2 percent over the homicide rate in 2014, while the biggest increase was in domestic violence-related femicides.  

We, the women of this country, are swimming in an ocean of paradoxes. Incidents are happening which stop our brains from functioning normally. Sometimes our jaws drop. Sometimes we cannot hold back our tears of joy. 

At other times, we have fits of rage; we shiver from head to toe.
 
All of these are happening in this country!

Three men have been sentenced to aggravated life in prison over the brutal murder of 20-year-old Özgecan Aslan in southern Turkey, in a ruling that delighted her family, friends, attorneys, and women's rights activists.

"What we call femicide is actually murder of women who revolt against abuse and push for independence," says the We Will Stop Femicides Platform (WSF).
