Young woman travels world without money

A young woman from the northern province of Çorum, who has been traveling the world for four months without paying any bills, food, drink, or accommodation, is now in Albania, her 11th country.

Sıla Güngören, 24, set off to realize her dream after graduating from Marmara University's Law Faculty and completing her law internship.

Government orders seasonal hotels to remain closured through 30 April

In its first measure regarding the tourism sector beyond financial support for employees due to the Coronavirus pandemic , who are included in horizontal measures to support labour, the government has ordered the closure of seasonal Greek hotels and other tourist facilities through 30 August, though the tempest for tourism is expected to drag through the summer tourist season.

Nine teenage migrants detained over riot in Greek facility

Police in northern Greece have detained nine teenagers in a hostel for unaccompanied migrants, following a riot over allegedly poor food and internet services at the facility.

Police said the trouble broke out Monday in the hostel in the eastern Thessaloniki district of Pylaia, where 30 unaccompanied minors live.

Probe launched into hostel fire that killed two women

An investigation has been launched into a fire that broke out at a hostel for the elderly in the Athens suburb of Kallithea on Saturday, resulting in the death of two women, aged 55 and 68. 

It remained unclear on Tuesday whether the facility, which has been in operation since the 1980s, had a valid fire safety certification. 

Hoteliers warn that stayover tax will harm tourism

A new stayover levy awaits guests at hotels and rooms to let across Greece from January 1 as part of bailout measures aimed to increase revenue and overcome the debt crisis.

The levy, which ranges from 0.50 to 4 euros per room, will burden guests and not hoteliers, according to the Greek Finance Ministry.
