Why Bulgarians Prefer Homeownership: Affordable Prices and Stable Interest Rates

Housing in Bulgaria remains more affordable compared to its Western European counterparts, a fact that contributes to the high rate of homeownership in the country. According to real estate brokers, about 92.5% of Bulgarians live in their own homes.

The housing puzzle

The problem of many people in finding affordable housing has become a pressing issue in almost all the major cities of the West. The government has taken and continues to take measures to support young would-be property owners or tenants.

Demand for rental housing rising fast

The number of people looking for a rental house surpassed those who look for a house to buy, according to recently published data.

Figures provided by the real estate platform Emlakjet showed that in May 52 percent of those out in the real estate market are looking for a house to rent. In April, this was 50 percent.
