Türkiye's HDI value rises but gender inequality lingers, says UN
Türkiye has made strides in human development over the past three decades but challenges persist in areas such as gender inequality and sustainability, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) administrator has said.

Classified in the very high human development category for the second time in a row, Turkey climbed up five places and ranked 54th among 189 countries and territories last year.
The country posted a 0.820 value in the human development index (HDI), a figure reported by the U.N. Development Program (UNDP) for 189 countries revealed on Tuesday.

UNDP: Serbia has improved human development, living standard
BELGRADE - In 2015, Serbia made progress in human development and the standard of living, ranking 66th out of 188 countries and territories, shows the UNDP's Human Development Report 2016.
Turkey ranks 71st in UN Human Development Index
Turkey has scored 71 out of 188 countries on the Human Development Index (HDI) for 2016, according to the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) latest Human Development Report.
The report said that Turkey's HDI value rose one place compared to 2015, putting it 71st with a score of 0.767, up from the previous year's score of 0.761.

Norway is again the best country in the world to live in
The UN released its annual Human Development Index (HDI) for 2015 and Norway is on the top for the 12th year in a row.
Norway scored 0.944 followed by Australia and Switzerland making them the best countries to live in for health, life expectancy, education and high incomes, whereas Greece ranked 29th with 0.865.
No country for happy women
I missed a lot of good laughter while I was in China. I was on a train from Shang Hai to Beijing when I read that Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç had stated women should not laugh in public.

The condition of women in Turkey is no laughing matter
Our deputy prime minister, Bülent Arınç, recently let slip his opinion that âwomen should not laugh in front of everybody.â Why does he think so? Beats me. I think itâs a weird thing to say. It indicates an anachronism embedded in Turkeyâs ruling elite. Whatâs more though, is that there is a strange connection between laughter and authoritarianism.
Bulgaria Ranks 58th by Human Development Index
Bulgaria ranks 58th in the list of countries in the 2014 Human Development Report (HDR) released on 24 July in Tokyo.
The HDR covers 187 countries across the world and is published annually by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Bulgaria belongs to the group of countries characterized by high human development.
