The Govedarou Art Gallery in Thessaloniki presents a retrospective exhibition on Greek artist Dimitra Koula's body of work from 2000 to 2009. Koula graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki's fine arts school in 2000. She also holds an MA in special education. Koula mostly creates oils in bold, bright colors depicting scenes from nature or everyday life and still lives.

Family of murdered Nigerian migrant to join criminal proceedings after 13-year struggle

The family of Festus Okey, a Nigerian asylum seeker who had been murdered at Istanbul's Beyoğlu police station in 2007, will join the criminal proceedings after 13 years of a legal and bureaucratic struggle.

Okey was detained on Aug. 20, 2007 on charges of drug possession and was brought to the Beyoğlu police station. He was fatally shot by Yıldız after his interrogation.

Ottoman conquest of Istanbul to be focus of Netflix’s new Turkish series

The period of the rise of the Ottoman Empire will be the center of the new Netflix series "Rise of Empires: Ottoman."

The series will focus on the period of the conquest of Istanbul and the rule of Ottoman Emperor Mehmet II, who conquered the city from the Byzantines in 1453.

Eradicating hooligans

It used to be standard procedure: Sports-related violence, like the death of a 28-year-old Bulgarian man following clashes between rival soccer club fans in Thessaloniki in northern Greece on Sunday, would almost automatically prompt the government of the time to announce a new package of measures aimed at eradicating hooliganism.

Thessaloniki authorities to launch scooter fishing mission

Authorities in Thessaloniki, a seaside city in northern Greece, are taking action following reports that dozens of electric scooters have been tossed into the water.

It is believed that at least 45 vehicles, available to rent for short periods of time through a mobile application, currently lie on the bottom of Thermaikos Gulf.
